Opportunities for Cultural Connections
Pow Wow Season is not over yet! While traditionally pow wows are not Haudenosaunee culture, many Haudenosaunee people participate in them and I see the value of them as a sources of Onkwehonwe (Indigenous) pride, support of Onkwehonwe entrepreneurs, making connections with Onkwehonwe people far and wide, AND an opportunity for our non-Indigenous friends and colleagues to make connections with Onkwehonwe people. These initial connections could be the start of the relationship building necessary for Indigenous inclusion work in any sector.
Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation 35th Three Fires Homecoming Pow Wow and Traditional Gathering is happening today and tomorrow.

Do some research to learn about Pow Wow etiquette and all of the dances. There are a lot of resources available on the internet, including videos. This resource has a lot of information about every aspect of the Pow Wow - Your Guide to Understanding and Enjoying Pow Wows. Tribal Trade explains the teachings and meanings of six dances.
There are often vendors from many different territories. If you’re looking to make connections with the local community, perhaps ask the vendors where they’re from or ask for a business card. If your organization hosts events that includes vendors, you can ask for business cards from your favourite vendors (regardless of their location) and invite them to set up at your event.
